Joost is Founder & Chairman of ICEMD, The Institute for the Digital Economy (Spain), which has been part of ESIC Business & Marketing School since 2011.The Institute, founded by him in 1995, researches, develops and teaches the skills necessary for companies (and individuals) to compete successfully in the digital economy. It has become the largest institution of its kind in the Spanish-speaking world.

Joost is a passionate teacher at heart, who has helped generations of students master the skills necessary to put into practice digital business strategies.

He is a board member of ADIGITAL, the Spanish Association of the Digital Economy, and Chairman of its Education Council.

He is a member of the Pan-European Education and Accreditation Committee in Brussels. The Committee is coordinated by FEDMA (Federation of European Direct & Interactive Marketing).
More than just a teacher, Joost is also a business leader and digital entrepreneur: He co-founded INCIPY (Digital Innovation Consultancy) and INCUBE (Digital Start-up Development). As an angel investor he participates in several cutting edge projects in Spain, Latin America and the US.

Joost was born in Amsterdam, The Netherlands, graduated from Dartmouth College, did graduate work at Harvard University and obtained a Master of Science Degree at MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology) in 1976. He started his career as a Management Trainee at Time-Life (Europe) in 1977, and was transferred to Barcelona (Spain) to be their Marketing Director there. In 1982 he joined the Ogilvy & Mather Group, where for the next fourteen years he held senior management positions in South Africa, Germany, Spain and the UK (from where he and his multi-national team developed integrated communications strategies for some of the group’s major Pan-European clients).

Joost has resided in Spain for the last 25 years and considers Spain his adopted home. He speaks five languages, is a prolific writer on the digital economy, and is a sought after teacher, trainer, consultant and speaker at Conferences and Congresses around the world.
